John has completed doctoral training in Clinical Psychology in the University of Limerick. This training involved working with a wide variety of clinical populations, both adults and children in mental health services, disability services and Primary Care Psychology Services. John’s doctoral thesis explored the impact of parent’s adverse childhood experiences on their ability to engage with interventions for their child’s emotional and behavioural difficulties.
John has also worked in various other roles prior to training, including in the Central Mental Hospital, Primary Care Psychology Services, and in SilverCloud Health, which specialises in the delivery of internet-based interventions for mental health difficulties.
Since graduating, John has worked in an Assessment of Need HSE service which involved complex assessments of children of all ages with neurodevelopmental disabilities including Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Intellectual Disabilities and Global Developmental Delay.
John currently works in an Adult Mental Health service conducting complex assessments with adults and investigating the possibility of comorbid presentations of Autism, ADHD and cognitive abilities. He has received specific training in Autism-specific assessment measures as well as training in supervision to date.
John has strong interest in assessments of neurodivergent presentations in both children and adults and aims to hold a neuroaffirmative approach that celebrates difference and finding the strengths a person holds throughout the assessment process.
John is a Chartered member of the Psychological Society of Ireland and is registered with the Division of Clinical Psychology.
We have a team of experts that work alongside John in the practice that are involved in assessments where necessary. Additional resources required are decided on a case-by-case basis and will be discussed with you in advance.
